How to read this table
Each row of the table represents a month. The columns display:
- Month: month and year concerned
- Health index: value published by Statbel (base 2013 = 100)
- Var. M-1: percentage variation compared with the previous month
- Var. Y-1: percentage variation compared with the same month of the previous year (= annual health inflation)
How to use these indices to calculate indexation
The Belgian rent indexation formula uses two indices:
- The base index = index of the month preceding lease signature
- The new index = index of the month preceding the anniversary date of entry into force
Indexed rent = Base rent × (New index ÷ Base index)

Data sources and reliability
The indices come exclusively from Statbel — the Directorate-General Statistics of the FPS Economy. Our server automatically retrieves new monthly publications via the official API. We perform no calculation or interpolation: what you see here is exactly what Statbel publishes.
The data is distributed under the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 licence — you may reuse it freely on the condition of citing the source.
Two index bases since 2026
This table shows the base 2013 = 100, applicable to leases signed between 2009 and the end of 2025 — the vast majority. Leases signed from 1 January 2026 use the new series: see the base 2025 index table.

How do I read this table? + −
Each row represents a month. Health index = value published by Statbel (base 2013 = 100). Var. M-1 = variation compared with the previous month. Var. Y-1 = variation compared with the same month of the previous year.
What is the health index used for in calculating rent? + −
The indexation formula uses two indices: that of the month preceding the lease signature (base index) and that of the month preceding the anniversary date (new index). See our methodology for details.
Why base 2013 and not 2025? + −
Statbel publishes the index on several base years (1988, 1996, 2004, 2013, 2025). Base 2013 = 100 is the base currently in force for leases signed between January 2014 and December 2025. New base years take over on the 1st January following a series change.
How can I download the data? + −
Click Download CSV at the top right of the table. The file contains all columns (year, month, base_year, health_index, smoothed) and can be used directly in Excel, LibreOffice or any analysis tool.
How often is this data updated? + −
Our VPS automatically retrieves the new index each month (Statbel publishes around the 26th). The data displayed is therefore up to date, generally within hours of the official publication.
